DOLNA CRÈCHE : Founded in 1971 by Mrs. M.Dasgupta at a time when the concept of a “Crèche” was totally new to the people of Kolkata. The crèche services that Dolna offers are not just for the very young children starting at 3 months age, day-care services are available for older children till the age of 16 years. The Dolna Crèche and the Dolna Day School are run by the Dolna day School Trust, a non-profit making organization

Dolna Crèche the first of its kind in Calcutta started functioning in 1972. It provides safe custody for children of working parents, from the age of 3 months, right up to the age 16 years. We endeavor to facilitate the proper physical & mental growth of these children and provide for them- 'a home away from home'. Children get the opportunity of spending their free time beyond school hours fruitfully in the extra-curricular classes that are organized in the evening. They learn to share and care for others in their same age-group, some younger and some older as well .Working parents who have never considered the "crèche" as an alternative to leaving children behind at home in the care of a maid , have often overlooked the possibility of an emergency arising out of a sudden fall or a cut from a sharp instrument or a child swallowing a small object. Children are safe only in an environment where they are closely monitored by and cared for by people who are trained and equipped to deal with such situations. The natural alternative is a professionally managed "Crèche."

FACILITIES : Dolna Day School - a school with a difference.

A pre -school where children learn to love education through play. (Playgroup - 2.5 yrs,+ Lower Nursery - 3 yrs, + Upper Nursery - 4yrs +, Preparatory - 5yrs +in JAN)

A primary school where children learn to become independent, develop their talents & build confidence. (Classes I to V for children 6 yrs + in JAN for class I)

A senior school affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations where the curriculum is formal, yet through informal classes we pave a graded path for the children till the school-leaving level (Class VI to X).

Beyond academies there are classes in Rabindrasangeet, folk songs, modern songs, aerobics and even karate for all.

Care for few special children who are mentally retarded or physically handicapped- integrating them with the normal child as to help them develop, build confidence in themselves and find a firm footing in the society.

We run the Calcutta centre for TRINITY COLLEGE LONDON & this provides avenues for the children to develop their latent talents in the fields of :

Instrumental Music- Piano, Violin, Guitar, Recorder, Synthesizer.

Speech & drama- effective communication , effective text speaking, group effective communication, acting in pairs & musical theatre.

Children may opt for Indian Classical dance forms:- Kathakali, Bharatnatyam & Manipuri.

Vocal Music- Rabindrasangeet or Atulprosad, D.L.Roy & Rajanikanta Sen's song.

Instrumental Music- Tabla.

A home for the aged, caring for the small nucleus of elderly persons & providing them a job opportunity at DOLNA.

Total counseling for parents, specially in matters such as diet, basic habits & hygiene for upbringing of these children.

We have also 20 Multimedia computers for children in an exclusive computer room where they get the opportunity to take their first steps into the world of Information and Technology form.

We have an air-conditioned auditorium where parents have the pleasure of watching their children

performing on stage.
